The Superior Court of Quebec has authorized the class action against Canada Post on January 14, 2025.

The parties must submit a request for approval of notice to the members within 60 days of the judgment.

Summary

Canada Post allegedly collected and used for commercial purposes personal information of recipients of mail and parcels delivered by Canada Post, without having obtained their prior consent.

The class action seeks a judgment ordering Canada Post to pay Class members an amount equal to the value of the personal information collected without their consent. The action also seeks punitive damages from Canada Post.

Target group

Any person residing in Quebec and having a postal address and whose personal information has been used without their consent by the Defendant for marketing purposes, all since April 16, 2004

Damages (compensation) requested:

CONDEMN the Defendant to pay the members of the Group an amount equal to the value of the personal information collected without consent by the Defendant, with interest at the legal rate increased by the additional compensation provided for in article 1619 CCQ calculated from the judgment to be rendered;

CONDEMN, as punitive damages, the Defendant to pay the Plaintiff and the members of the Group a total sum of twenty-five million dollars, with interest at the legal rate increased by the additional compensation provided for in article 1619 CCQ calculated from the judgment to be rendered;

Registration

Registration is not a mandatory requirement to participate in the class action. However, it allows us to communicate with class members and keep them informed of important developments in the case.
